Longhorn beetle (likely a prionine longhorn)

Wooded areas, forest edges, and buildings near trees or stored firewood, especially in eastern and central North America.

Larvae feed inside decaying or stressed roots, stumps, and buried wood. Adults generally feed little or may consume sap or plant material.

Mostly nocturnal and attracted to lights; adults emerge in summer and may appear on houses. Larvae develop in wood for several years before pupating.

Harmless to people and not venomous, though it can bite if handled. Larvae aid decomposition, but some species can damage structural or landscape wood.
