Common indoors in humid areas, including upholstery, books, stored food, and wall voids; also found outdoors on bark and leaf litter.

Feeds mainly on mold, fungi, algae, microscopic organic debris, and occasionally starch-based residues rather than blood or living tissue.

Moves slowly and favors darkness and high humidity. Populations can increase in damp conditions, with some species reproducing without males.

Harmless to people, pets, clothing, and structures; it does not bite or transmit disease. Its presence often indicates excess moisture or mold, so drying and cleaning the area usually controls it.
