Carpet Beetle Larva

Commonly found indoors in dark, undisturbed areas such as closets, under furniture, or along baseboards. They thrive in environments with accumulated pet hair, dust, or natural fibers.

They feed on natural fibers and animal products, including wool, silk, fur, feathers, hair, and dead insects. They do not eat synthetic fabrics unless blended with natural fibers or soiled.

Larvae avoid light and prefer to stay hidden while they feed and grow. They molt multiple times, leaving behind shed skins. Once fully developed, they pupate and emerge as adult beetles, which then seek out pollen and nectar outdoors.

Risks: Can cause significant damage to household items like wool carpets, clothing, and blankets. Some people may develop allergic reactions (contact dermatitis) to the tiny hairs on the larvae. Benefits: In nature, they act as scavengers, breaking down animal remains and recycling nutrients.
