Natural Habitat

Commonly found in residential pantries, kitchens, grocery stores, and food processing facilities worldwide.

Diet & Feeding

Larvae feed on stored grain products, including cereal, flour, pasta, rice, nuts, dried fruit, seeds, and birdseed.

Behavior Patterns

Adults are nocturnal and attracted to light; they do not feed and live only for about a week to mate and lay eggs. Larvae spin silken webs in food sources and pupate in crevices away from food.

Risks & Benefits

They pose no direct health risk to humans or pets but are a major nuisance pest that causes significant economic loss through food contamination with webbing, feces, and cocoons.
