Carpet Beetle

Natural Habitat

Found indoors in homes, warehouses, and bird nests. Frequently found near windows, baseboards, and in stored food or fabrics.

Diet & Feeding

Adults feed on pollen and nectar. Larvae are the ones that cause damage, feeding on animal-based materials like wool, silk, fur, feathers, hair, and dried plant matter/stored grains.

Behavior Patterns

Adults are often attracted to light and seen on windowsills. They undergo complete metamorphosis; the larval stage is the most destructive and can last for months depending on environment and food availability.

Risks & Benefits

They do not bite humans or pets, but they are major household pests that can destroy clothing, carpets, and upholstery. Some people may experience allergic reactions (dermatitis) from contact with the hairs of the larvae.
