Natural Habitat

Dark, undisturbed indoor areas such as closets, carpets, upholstery, and stored textiles.

Diet & Feeding

Larvae consume keratin-containing materials, including wool, fur, feathers, hair, and occasionally lint or natural-fiber fabrics. Adults do not feed on textiles.

Behavior Patterns

The larva lives inside a silk-and-fiber case, feeding and enlarging it as it grows; it may leave the case to pupate. Adults are small, weak-flying moths that avoid light.

Risks & Benefits

It is not dangerous to people, but infestations can damage woolens, carpets, furs, and other animal-derived fabrics. It contributes modestly to decomposition of keratin-rich materials.
