Natural Habitat
Typically found indoors in cracks and crevices near human sleeping areas, such as mattresses, box springs, headboards, upholstery, and behind wallpaper.
Diet & Feeding
Hematophagous (feeds exclusively on blood), primarily generally preferring human blood but will feed on other warm-blooded animals.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal feeders that hide during the day in tight spaces. They are attracted to warmth and carbon dioxide emitted by sleeping hosts. They are known for distinct feeding patterns, sometimes referred to as 'breakfast, lunch, and dinner' bites in a row.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy red welts on skin, allergic reactions, anxiety, and insomnia. While they are irritating and difficult to eradicate, they are not primarily known to transmit infectious diseases to humans. They offer no known benefits to the human ecosystem.
