Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding
Omnivorous; feeds on a variety of plants, seeds, and small insects including grasshoppers and caterpillars.
Behavior Patterns
Diurnal and active in hot weather. Males produce a loud, rhythmic song by stridulation to attract females. They are strong jumpers and capable of short flights.
Risks & Benefits
Benefits the ecosystem as a predator of smaller pest insects. While not aggressive, they have powerful mandibles and can deliver a painful (but non-venomous) bite if handled roughly.
