Moist potting soil, decaying organic matter, greenhouses, and indoor plant areas; adults may appear on walls or windows.

Adults consume little or nothing; larvae feed mainly on fungi, algae, and decaying organic material, sometimes damaging fine plant roots.

Weak fliers often walk or hover near soil and lights. Adults are short-lived; larvae develop in damp soil and can produce recurring indoor populations.

Harmless to people and pets and generally not a health threat. Larvae recycle organic matter but may stress seedlings and houseplants when abundant.
