Natural Habitat
Found in urban gardens, coastal scrub, and forests, particularly on plants within the Malvaceae family.
Diet & Feeding
Herbivorous; it uses piercing-sucking mouthparts to feed on young shoots, flower buds, and seeds of hibiscus, cotton, and bottle trees.
Behavior Patterns
They undergo incomplete metamorphosis. Females are known to exhibit maternal care by guarding their egg clusters until they hatch, protecting them from predators and parasitic wasps.
Risks & Benefits
Considered a minor pest to ornamental hibiscus and commercial cotton crops. While they do not bite humans, they can emit a foul-smelling chemical deterrent if handled.
