Behavior Patterns
The larva uses curved mandibles to suck out the insides of its prey. It attaches the empty carcasses and other bits of environmental debris (lichens, moss, dust) to its back using hooked hairs to camouflage itself from predators.
Risks & Benefits
Highly beneficial to ecosystems and gardens as a natural pest control agent. They are harmless to humans, though they may occasionally deliver a minor, non-toxic nip if they land on skin.
