Varied Carpet Beetle
Scientific Name: Anthrenus verbasci
Order & Family: Coleoptera (Beetles) family Dermestidae (Skin Beetles)
Size: Typically 1.7 to 3.5 mm (roughly 0.1 inch) in length.

Natural Habitat
Often found indoors in homes, museums, and warehouses; outdoors they live in bird nests, bee hives, and on flowering plants.
Diet & Feeding
Larvae feed on natural fibers like wool, silk, fur, feathers, dead insects, and dried leather. Adults primarily feed on pollen and nectar.
Behavior Patterns
Adults are attracted to light and are often seen near windows. The destructive larvae prefer dark, undisturbed areas (like under furniture or in closets) where they molt several times, leaving behind shed skins.
Risks & Benefits
The larvae are considered pests because they damage household textiles (carpets, clothing, upholstery). They do not bite or sting humans, though their tiny hairs can cause allergic dermatitis in some people. In nature, they act as decomposers.
