Vegetation, especially the undersides and surfaces of herbaceous plant leaves in gardens, fields, and woodland margins.

Adults chew small, round “shot holes” in leaves; larvae typically feed on roots or foliage, depending on species.

Adults are active jumpers and may spring away when disturbed. They overwinter in plant debris or soil and reproduce on host plants during the growing season.

Usually minor pests, but large populations can damage seedlings and leafy crops. They are part of food webs and some species help regulate weed plants.
