Case-bearing Clothes Moth larva

Natural Habitat

Indoors, particularly in dark, undisturbed areas where animal-based fibers are stored. This includes closets, attics, under furniture, and in carpets or rugs.

Diet & Feeding

Keratin-rich materials such as wool, fur, feathers, hair, felt, and sometimes synthetic fibers if mixed with natural ones. They can also feed on lint and debris.

Behavior Patterns

The larva constructs a silken case, camouflaged with bits of the material it is feeding on, which it carries everywhere as it feeds. It retreats into this case when disturbed. They prefer dark, undisturbed locations and move slowly.

Risks & Benefits

Risks: Significant pest of textiles, causing damage to clothing, carpets, upholstery, and other items made from natural fibers. No known benefits.
