Click Beetle
Scientific Name: Family Elateridae
Order & Family: Order: Coleoptera, Family: Elateridae
Size: 12 to 30 mm (0.5 to 1.2 inches) depending on the specific species.

Natural Habitat
Typically found in soil, under bark, or on decaying vegetation. They are frequently attracted to artificial lights at night and may accidentally enter homes.
Diet & Feeding
Adults primarily feed on nectar, plant juices, and soft plant parts. Larvae, known as wireworms, live in the soil and feed on rotting vegetation or the roots of crops.
Behavior Patterns
Notable for a specialized 'click' mechanism located between the prothorax and mesothorax; when flipped on their backs, they use this mechanism to snap into the air and right themselves. They are nocturnal and are highly attracted to light.
Risks & Benefits
Generally harmless to humans as they do not bite or sting. However, their larvae (wireworms) can be significant agricultural pests by damaging the roots of cereal crops, potatoes, and vegetables.
