Natural Habitat
Commonly found in grain storage facilities, pantries, and mills. Unlike other weevils, they are almost exclusively found in human-stored grain environments.
Diet & Feeding
Feeds on a variety of whole grains including wheat, oats, rye, barley, rice, and corn.
Behavior Patterns
Flightless insects that use their snout to bore holes into grain kernels where the female lays a single egg. The larvae develop inside the kernel, hollowing it out.
Risks & Benefits
A significant economic pest that destroys stored food products. They pose no direct health risk to humans (non-toxic and do not bite), but contaminated food is usually considered unfit for consumption.
