Warm, humid indoor areas—especially kitchens, bathrooms, wall voids, and appliances—where food and moisture are available.

Omnivorous scavengers that consume crumbs, grease, starches, sweets, pet food, paper residues, and many other organic materials.

Mostly nocturnal, fast-running, and strongly shelter-seeking. They reproduce rapidly indoors; nymphs lack wings and develop through several molts.

They can contaminate food and surfaces with pathogens and shed allergens that may worsen asthma. They provide little household benefit, though they function as decomposers and prey in natural ecosystems.
