Feeds mainly on microscopic mold, fungi, algae, and organic residues rather than blood or living tissue.

Small, soft-bodied, slow-moving insects that favor darkness and humidity; populations may reproduce rapidly in damp buildings, often without males.

Harmless to people, pets, clothing, and structures; rarely causes minor contamination of stored materials. Its presence indicates excess moisture and possible mold growth.
