Indoors, especially carpets, closets, upholstery, stored fabrics, and undisturbed dusty areas.

Larvae eat keratin-rich materials such as wool, fur, feathers, hair, dead insects, and natural-fiber fabrics. Adults feed mainly on pollen and nectar.

Larvae are slow-moving, bristly, and often hide in dark areas; they shed distinctive hairs and molt repeatedly. Adults commonly enter homes and seek windows or flowers.

Larvae can damage woolens, carpets, taxidermy, and other animal-based materials; their hairs may irritate sensitive skin or airways. They also help decompose organic debris outdoors.
