Wolf Spider

Natural Habitat

Found worldwide in varied habitats including grasslands, forests, gardens, and often inside homes or basements.

Diet & Feeding

Carnivorous; they are ground hunters that eat insects, other spiders, and small invertebrates.

Behavior Patterns

Unlike most spiders, they do not spin webs to catch prey; they are agile hunters with excellent eyesight. Females carry their egg sacs attached to their spinnerets and then carry their spiderlings on their backs after hatching.

Risks & Benefits

Benefits the ecosystem by controlling pest insect populations. While they are venomous, they are generally not aggressive to humans and their bite is usually no more painful than a bee sting unless a person has an allergic reaction.
