Springtail (likely elongate springtail)

Moist soil, leaf litter, compost, decaying wood, and humid indoor areas such as bathrooms or houseplant soil.

Feeds mainly on fungi, algae, bacteria, decaying plant material, and organic residues; it does not bite or suck blood.

Usually lives in damp conditions and moves by walking or catapulting with a forked abdominal springing organ called a furcula. Populations increase in moisture and decline when surfaces dry.

Harmless to people, pets, clothing, and buildings; indoor appearances generally indicate excess moisture. They aid decomposition and nutrient cycling, though large numbers may occasionally affect seedlings or houseplants.
