Larvae consume keratin-rich materials such as wool, fur, feathers, hair, dead insects, and natural-fiber textiles. Adults mainly feed on pollen and nectar.

Larvae are covered in bristles and often curl or shed bristly skins when disturbed; they hide and molt repeatedly before pupating. Adults are small, oval beetles attracted to light and flowers.
