Natural Habitat
Warm, humid indoor areas—especially kitchens, bathrooms, cabinets, and spaces near food, water, or appliances.
Diet & Feeding
Omnivorous scavengers that feed on crumbs, grease, starches, sweets, pet food, cardboard, and other organic materials.
Behavior Patterns
Mostly nocturnal, fast-moving, and highly reproductive; they hide in cracks during daylight and females carry egg cases until shortly before hatching. They are commonly transported in bags, boxes, and appliances.
Risks & Benefits
Can contaminate food and surfaces and spread allergens associated with asthma and dermatitis. They provide little household benefit, though they are decomposers and prey for other animals outdoors.
