Natural Habitat
Gardens, meadows, and agricultural fields; usually found on the stems of plants.
Diet & Feeding
Plant xylem sap, which they extract using piercing-sucking mouthparts.
Behavior Patterns
Nymphs produce a protective foam (spittle) by mixing fluid excretions with air to hide from predators and stay moist. Adults are known for their incredible jumping ability.
Risks & Benefits
Generally harmless to humans; they can be minor garden pests but rarely cause significant damage. They are an important food source for birds and spiders.
