Natural Habitat
Indoor environments, particularly dark and undisturbed areas like closets, attics, and drawers.
Diet & Feeding
Larvae feed on natural fibers containing keratin, such as wool, silk, fur, feathers, and hair. Adults do not eat.
Behavior Patterns
They are photophobic (avoid light) and prefer dark corners. The larvae create silken tunnels or mats while feeding. They are weak fliers and often scuttle across surfaces.
Risks & Benefits
They are significant structural pests that cause permanent damage to clothing, carpets, and upholstery. They pose no direct health risk to humans but can be economically destructive.
