Indoors in carpets, upholstery, clothing, and lint-rich crevices; adults often occur near windows and flowers.

Larvae consume keratin-rich materials such as wool, fur, feathers, hair, and dead insects. Adults generally feed on pollen and nectar.

Larvae are slow-moving, hairy, and hide in dark areas; they molt repeatedly and may leave shed skins. Adults are active fliers and commonly enter homes from outdoors.

Larvae can damage natural-fiber textiles and may cause skin irritation from shed hairs. They recycle animal-derived organic matter, while adults pollinate flowers.
