Booklouse (barklouse)
Likely Liposcelis spp.
- Order & Family
- Psocodea; Liposcelididae
- Size
- About 0.8–2 mm long; pale, soft-bodied, and often difficult to see clearly.
Natural Habitat
Humid indoor areas, especially stored-food cupboards, books, cardboard, wallpaper, and undisturbed surfaces. They favor warm, damp conditions and microscopic mold growth.
Diet & Feeding
Feeds mainly on mold, fungi, algae, organic debris, and occasionally stored-food residues; it does not bite or blood-feed.
Behavior Patterns
Usually wingless and moves slowly or intermittently across surfaces. Populations can increase rapidly by parthenogenetic reproduction when humidity is high.
