Plaster Bagworm (Case-bearing Moth Larva)
Phereoeca uterella
- Order & Family
- Order: Lepidoptera; Family: Tineidae
- Size
- Case is approximately 8-15 mm long
Natural Habitat
Typically found indoors in high-humidity environments, often seen crawling on walls, ceilings, and floors.
Diet & Feeding
Feeds on spiderwebs, wool, hair, silk, and other natural detritus/fibers.
Behavior Patterns
The larva constructs an oval, silk-lined case covered in sand and debris. It can emerge from either end of the case to feed or move, eventually pupating inside the case to become a small gray moth.
Risks & Benefits
Generally harmless to humans but considered a minor household pest as it can damage natural fabrics (wool, silk) and create unsightly cases on walls.
