Clover Mite

Natural Habitat

Typically found outdoors in grasses, clovers, and lawns. They often migrate indoors or onto exterior walls, windowsills, and sunny surfaces during spring and fall seeking warmth or cooler temperatures depending on the season.

Diet & Feeding

Herbivorous; they feed on plant juices from grasses, clovers, and various other plants.

Behavior Patterns

They are known for mass migrations, often swarming in thousands on the sunny sides of buildings. They do not fly but crawl quickly. When crushed, they leave a distinctive red stain due to their body pigmentation.

Risks & Benefits

They are harmless to humans and pets (they do not bite, sting, or transmit diseases). They are considered a nuisance pest because they can invade homes in large numbers and leave difficult-to-clean red stains on walls, fabrics, and furniture when squished. They do minor damage to lawns.
