Natural Habitat

Omnivorous; feeds on sweets, proteins, and fats including syrups, jellies, grease, and dead insects.
Behavior Patterns
Forms large colonies with multiple queens and uses a process called budding to start new nests when disturbed. They are primarily nocturnal and follow well-established pheromone trails.
Risks & Benefits
Significant indoor pest; known for mechanical transmission of pathogens like Salmonella and Streptococcus in hospitals. They do not sting but can be difficult to eradicate due to colony splitting.
