Natural Habitat

Warm, dry indoor spaces such as kitchens, bathrooms, furniture, wall voids, and appliances; it often lives above ceilings or in high cabinets.

Diet & Feeding

An omnivorous scavenger that eats crumbs, starches, grease, pet food, dead insects, and occasionally glue or book bindings.

Behavior Patterns

Mostly nocturnal, fast-moving, and secretive; it hides in narrow cracks and reproduces indoors year-round. Nymphs develop through several molts, and adults may show pale transverse bands on the wings and abdomen.

Risks & Benefits

It can contaminate food and surfaces and contribute to allergy or asthma symptoms, though it does not usually bite. Ecologically, cockroaches recycle organic matter, but this indoor species is generally considered a pest.
