Indoor homes, especially carpets, closets, upholstery, and undisturbed corners; adults occur outdoors on flowers.

Larvae consume keratin-rich materials such as wool, fur, feathers, hair, and dead insects. Adults feed mainly on pollen and nectar.

Larvae are brown, oval, and densely bristled, often moving slowly or hiding in dark areas; they molt repeatedly and may leave shed skins. Adults are small, rounded, and mottled, emerging indoors or flying in from outside.

They can damage natural-fiber clothing, carpets, and stored specimens, and larval hairs may irritate skin or airways. They also recycle animal remains outdoors; they do not bite or transmit disease.
