Natural Habitat

Indoors, especially along window frames, baseboards, closets, carpets, and beneath furniture where lint and dead insects accumulate.

Diet & Feeding

Larvae eat keratin-rich materials such as wool, fur, feathers, hair, dead insects, and natural-fiber textiles. Adults mainly consume pollen and nectar.

Behavior Patterns

Larvae are slow-moving, often concealed, and shed bristly skins as they develop; they may wander onto windowsills seeking light. Adults commonly appear near windows in spring and summer.

Risks & Benefits

They do not bite or transmit disease, but larval hairs can cause mild allergic skin or respiratory irritation and infestations can damage natural fabrics. Adults pollinate flowers, while larvae recycle animal material.
