Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding
Larvae feed on natural fibers such as wool, silk, fur, and feathers, as well as stored pantry goods like grains and dry pet food. Adults primarily feed on pollen and nectar.
Behavior Patterns
The beetles undergo complete metamorphosis. Adults are often seen crawling on walls toward light sources or windows. They are most active in spring and summer.
Risks & Benefits
They do not bite or transmit diseases, but they are significant household pests that can damage fabrics and clothing. Some people may experience allergic reactions ('carpet beetle dermatitis') from contact with the hairs of the larvae.
