Cellar Spider
Scientific Name: Pholcus phalangioides
Order & Family: Araneae, Pholcidae
Size: Body length typically 2-10 mm; leg span can be up to 5-7 cm or more.

Natural Habitat
Commonly found in dark, damp areas such as cellars, basements, undisturbed corners of rooms, sheds, and garages. They prefer sheltered environments.
Diet & Feeding
Opportunistic predators, feeding on various small insects and other spiders. They are known for preying on other spiders, including venomous ones like Black Widows.
Behavior Patterns
Cellar spiders spin irregular, messy webs in corners. They are often seen vibrating rapidly in their web when disturbed, possibly to appear larger or more difficult for predators to catch. They are largely nocturnal.
Risks & Benefits
Generally harmless to humans; their fangs are too small to penetrate human skin effectively, and their venom is not considered medically significant. They can be beneficial by preying on other pest insects and spiders in homes.
