They exhibit both sexual and asexual reproduction (parthenogenesis). They often form dense colonies on the undersides of leaves and can produce winged offspring to migrate when colonies become overcrowded.

Significant agricultural pest; they cause direct damage by stunt growth and leaf curling, and indirect damage by transmitting over 100 different plant viruses.
