Bristletail (likely a jumping bristletail)

Rocky, dry outdoor habitats, especially under stones, bark, and leaf litter; occasionally wanders indoors. It is not typically associated with infestations.

Feeds mainly on algae, lichens, decaying plant matter, and organic debris scraped from surfaces.

Fast-running and capable of jumping using its abdominal muscles; adults retain primitive external body features and develop gradually without a pupal stage. Most are nocturnal and hide in crevices during daylight.

Harmless to people, pets, clothing, and stored food, and it does not bite or sting. It contributes modestly to decomposition and nutrient cycling.
