Natural Habitat
Found in meadows, fields, gardens, and grassy areas throughout North America.
Diet & Feeding
Adults feed on flower nectar. Larvae (caterpillars) feed on various clovers, grasses, alfalfa, and other legumes.
Behavior Patterns
They are primarily nocturnal but are often flushed from grass during the day. They have a distinctive jerky flight pattern and hold their wings in a flat triangle when resting.
Risks & Benefits
Generally beneficial as pollinators in the adult stage. The larvae are common in agricultural fields but are rarely considered major pests unless populations are exceptionally high.
