Carpet beetles occur indoors in carpets, upholstery, closets, and stored fabrics, as well as outdoors on flowers and plant debris.

Larvae feed on keratin-rich materials such as wool, fur, feathers, and dead insects; adults usually feed on pollen and nectar.

Larvae hide in dark, undisturbed areas and shed bristly skins as they grow. Adults are generally active around windows and flowers.

Larvae can damage natural-fiber textiles and may cause mild skin irritation from shed hairs. They recycle animal debris outdoors; the identification is tentative because the specimen is small and partially indistinct.
