Natural Habitat

Typically found inside residential buildings on walls or floors, often in humid or damp areas like bathrooms and closets.

Diet & Feeding

The larvae feed on organic materials, including spider webs, wool fibers, hair, and sometimes dead insects.

Behavior Patterns

The larva constructs a protective silk case covered in sand, dust, and debris. It is open at both ends, allowing the larva to feed from either side and retreat inside if threatened. They undergo a complete metamorphosis including larva, pupa, and adult moth stages.

Risks & Benefits

Generally harmless to humans and pets, but can be a nuisance pest. In large numbers, they may cause minor damage to natural fiber textiles (wool, silk) or clothing, but they are primarily web-scavengers.
