Natural Habitat
Found globally in indoor environments, specifically in closets, storage chests, and areas with natural fibers.
Diet & Feeding
Larvae feed on animal-based fibers including wool, fur, feathers, silk, and felt. They do not eat synthetic fabrics unless blended with natural fibers.
Behavior Patterns
The larva constructs a silken portable case which it incorporates fragments of its food source into. It carries this case as it feeds and eventually pupates within it. They prefer dark, undisturbed areas.
Risks & Benefits
Potential risk for significant damage to clothing, upholstery, and carpets. They provide no direct benefit to humans and are considered a common household pest.
