Natural Habitat
Dark, undisturbed areas in homes, specifically near animal-fiber textiles like wool, silk, fur, or feathers.
Diet & Feeding
Keratin-rich animal fibers including wool rugs, sweaters, blankets, furs, and hair. They do not eat synthetic fabrics unless blended with natural fibers.
Behavior Patterns
Larvae are secretive and often live inside silken tubes or cases they spin for protection. They undergo multiple molts before pupating.
Risks & Benefits
A major household pest that causes significant damage to clothing and upholstery. They pose no direct health risk to humans but can be destructive to property.
