Natural Habitat

Tropical and subtropical rainforests and coastal forests, primarily living in leaf litter or burrowing in soft soil.

Detritivore; they primary consume decaying organic matter, rotting wood, and fallen fruit.

Behavior Patterns

Slow-moving and nocturnal. They typically curl into a tight spiral when threatened to protect their soft underside and can secrete a defensive liquid from their body rings. They have a long lifespan, often living 5 to 10 years.

Risks & Benefits

Ecologically beneficial as primary decomposers that recycle nutrients back into the soil. They are generally harmless to humans but can secrete a skin-irritating liquid (milling) that may cause a mild chemical burn or allergic reaction if it touches the eyes or sensitive skin.
