Natural Habitat

Indoors in carpets, clothing, upholstery, closets, and other dark, undisturbed areas; adults often occur near windows and flowers.

Diet & Feeding

Larvae eat keratin-rich materials such as wool, fur, feathers, silk, and dead insects, plus lint and organic debris. Adults mainly feed on pollen and nectar.

Behavior Patterns

Larvae are slow-moving, bristly, and may hide or shed hairy skins while developing; they can persist unnoticed for months. Adults are small, oval, mottled beetles attracted to light.

Risks & Benefits

Larvae can damage natural-fiber textiles and occasionally cause itchy skin irritation from hairs. They recycle animal remains and organic debris; adults are minor pollinators.
