Diet & Feeding

Herbivorous; predominantly feeds on the foliage of Cupressaceae plants such as Juniperus (Junipers), Thuja (Arborvitae), and Chamaecyparis.

Behavior Patterns

As a 'looper' or 'inchworm,' it moves by drawing its back end to its front and then reaching forward. It exhibits excellent crypsis, mimicking twigs or plant stems to avoid predators.

Risks & Benefits

Generally considers a minor pest of ornamental conifers; heavy infestations can cause defoliation and browning of host plants. They are beneficial as a food source for local birds and predatory insects.
