Pennsylvania Wood Roach
Scientific Name: Parcoblatta pennsylvanica
Order & Family: Order: Blattodea; Family: Ectobiidae
Size: 1/2 to 1 inch (13 to 25 mm) in length

Natural Habitat
Typically found outdoors in hollow trees, under loose bark, or in woodpiles. They often wander indoors in search of light or mates.
Diet & Feeding
Omnivorous; they primarily consume decaying organic matter, fungi, and occasionally small insects.
Behavior Patterns
Males are strong fliers and are attracted to porch lights at night. Unlike domestic cockroaches, they do not prefer to live or breed indoors and typically die within a few days of entering a home due to lack of moisture.
Risks & Benefits
They are considered a nuisance pest but do not bite and are not associated with disease transmission like the German cockroach. They provide an ecological benefit as decomposers in forest ecosystems.
