Natural Habitat

In and around human dwellings, particularly on walls, floors, and under furniture where dust and pet hair accumulate.

Diet & Feeding

Scavenges on organic debris including dust, spider webs, wool fibers, feathers, and shed hair.

Behavior Patterns

The larva builds a flattened, spindle-shaped silken case covered in sand, dust, and debris. It can pull its head and legs into the case for protection and can move in either direction by turning inside the case.

Risks & Benefits

Generally considered a minor household pest. They do not bite humans, but they can occasionally damage silk or wool clothing and carpets.
