Diet & Feeding

Carnivorous; adults hunt flying insects like mosquitoes, flies, and moths while in flight. Larvae (naiads) eat aquatic insects, tadpoles, and small fish.

Behavior Patterns

Males are highly territorial and known for their white-frosted abdomens; they often perch on vegetation or logs to guard their territory. They exhibit a distinct 'wigwag' flight behavior to deter rivals.

Risks & Benefits

Highly beneficial to humans and the ecosystem as they are major predators of mosquitoes and other pest insects. They do not sting or bite humans.
