Natural Habitat

Indoors within households, particularly in warm, humid climates; often found on walls or floors.

Diet & Feeding

Larvae feed on spider webs, wool, hair, and biological debris found in household dust.

Behavior Patterns

The larva builds a flattened, spindle-shaped case from silk and environmental debris (sand, dust, lint) which it drags along as it moves. It can poke its head out from either end of the case.

Risks & Benefits

Generally considered a minor household pest. They do not bite or sting, but their presence can be a nuisance and they may occasionally damage silk or wool garments if food sources are limited.
