Natural Habitat

Primarily mulberry orchards and farms; fully domesticated and not found in the wild.

Diet & Feeding

Adult moths do not eat; larvae (caterpillars) feed exclusively on the leaves of the white mulberry tree.

Behavior Patterns

The larva spins a protective cocoon made of a single continuous silk filament. The domestic moth has lost the ability to fly or feed after emerging.

Risks & Benefits

Extremely beneficial as the source of silk production (sericulture); poses no risk to humans or the ecosystem as they are domesticated.
